MP: How did you get your start in Music and producing?

I started making beats about 5 years ago. When I was like 14-15 years old me and a group of my friends started a rap group called Street Team but me and my homie J. Springs (another member of 78 West Productions) wasn’t very serious about the rapping like the others were so we slowly stopped and just played the background and listen. Well one of my friends had a cousin that made beats and he gave us this club track he did and we were going crazy when we heard it. At that point I didn’t really know anything about making beats and how to get equipment and get started. All I knew about were the production credits given to the producers on the inside of the CD covers. I later started to look in to how much the equipment would cost and how I could learn to make beats myself. Basically money wasn’t poppin off like that when I was 15 yrs. Old so I couldn’t afford a Mpc or anything like that. So one day one of my friends I rapped with put me on to a program called fl studios, so that day I went home downloaded the demo version and took off from there. I slowly got better and better over the years and I’m still learning trying to perfect my craft. I’ve always had a love for music and a strong love for hip-hop so getting involved in what makes that music possible was just a next step for me.

MP: What do you use to make your beats?

My set up is really basic. All I use is Fl Studios 8, a pair of Rokit 8 studio monitors, a bunch of VST, Plug-ins, a nice collection of drums and other percussion samples that I’ve purchased and sampled on my own and a 02 USB midi Controller. Its very limited but I make it work.

MP: How would you describe your sound?

I would say my style or (sound).. is a mix of some Kanye, Justblaze, Neptunes, 9th Wonder, Timbaland, and Bink rolled in one. I don’t like to limit myself to a single category because that allows room for reinventing and recreating your style or sound. My sound is a reflection of the music i listen to on a daily basis. I listen to all types of music ranging from Hip-hop to R&B, soul, funk, rock, etc. so i use those elements of what I’m hearing and put it on a track. I remember i use to listen to the words in song more then I pay attention to the production but ever since i started making beats i find myself listening pass the words and focusing more on the music, study the melodies and instrumentation trying to learn n anyway possible. I don’t feel that i have a sound that i can call my own but I’m doing my thing and trying to master this craft for producing overall.

MP: Who are some of your influences?

A few of the influences in my life that help me with my music first would have to be ma mother and father who support me heavily in everything i do.. Musically my some of my influences would have to be Pete Rock, Kanye West, Jay-z, Just Blaze, Timbaland, The Neptunes, Swizz Beats, Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blidge, The whole genre of soul music, and just music in general.

MP: Who would you want to work with?

I really would like to work with anybody that’s focused and willing to work with me. I have a passion for making music that can move people and i want to work with artist that can help me do that...starting artist like Jay-z, Lil wayne, Nas, Jadakiss, Styles P, Joe Buddens, , Beans, Freeway, Busta Rhymes, Common, Kanye west, The Game, 50 Cent, N.O.E...to artist like Justin Timberlake, Usher, Musiqsoulchild, Beyonce, Little Brother, Slum Village etc.....
